Dock Levellers, Shelters & Associated Equipment
To complement our range of industrial doors and to ensure we can provide
the 'total package' we supply and install our range of dock equipment.
Foam Pad
Dock Seal
The dock seal is a cost effective answer to sealing the rear of a vehicle
to a loading bay, thereby protecting the conditions inside the building from adverse
conditions outside.
We have three options:
Model DR 100
Specification
The main cover is constructed from one piece of 900g/mē PVC coated
polyester fabric with no transverse seams top or bottom, which alleviates splitting
problems due to high usage. The covers have air vents to allow air to exhaust on
compression.
Stitched to the front face of the cover and extending 50mm down each side
and ends is a single piece of hardwearing 1500g/mē neoprene coated nylon which forms the
main wear area to the seal.
A lightweight polyether foam with a good recovery rate is used for the
core of the pad seals. The foam pads are bonded to either a 50mm treated timber backboard
or a galvanized steel profile depending on customer requirements.
Head and side pad standard profile is 300mm square with a height to suit
building/vehicle parameters. The side pads may be bevelled for use on wide doorways and
tapered for vehicle approaches that are not level.
Each side pad has a high visibility guide stripe stitched full height to
the front face, to help the docking vehicle to locate centrally to the doorway.
 |
DR 101 overlap wear pleats |
Model DR 101
The Model 101 is similar to the Model 100 except for:
Stitched to the front face of the cover, with two rows of heavy duty
bonded nylon thread, are wear plates made from 1500g/mē neoprene coated nylon, attached
in a 100% overlap configuration to give maximum wear capabilities.
A high visibility vehicle guide strip is sewn to the bottom six wear
plates of each side to aid docking.
Structural Requirements
As the vehicle reverses on to the pads, the pressure stresses from the
vehicle are transmitted to the building. Therefore it is paramount that a structurally
sound fitting area is provided that is both flat and in the same plane to all three sides
and able to sustain the load.

Models DRM 100 & 101 Mobile Head Dock Seal
The adjustable Head Dock Seal is the secure and effective answer to
sealing the rear of vehicles with a wide height variation to a loading dock.
The pad system is built to fit the structural opening while interfacing
within the size parameters of the vehicle.
The head pad runs in steel tracks between the side pads over the length of
its adjustment. The head pad is suspended by a full width blind, which is attached to a
spring counter balanced roller for smooth height adjustment. The blind also forms a seal
when the head pad is below the door lintel.
DRM 101 has reinforced pleats for longer life.
Standard types have sprung barrel operation. Electrically operated
versions are also available.
The specification for either model is the same as the Model DR 100 or DR
101 Foam Pad Dock Seal.

Inflatable Dock Seals
Inflatable dock shelters provide the ultimate level of insulation between
the external and internal environments.
We have four options:
 |
Model DR 400 |
Model DR 400
This is the most widely used type of inflatable shelter and is
recommended where there is a wide variation in height and where vehicles may have a tail
lift and rear roller or slide over doors. Extra wide doorways may also be accommodated.

Diagram showing inflated side seals to vehicle |
The shelter is inflated by a fan motor to seal the head and side
bags against both sides and the top of the vehicle body. The head and side bags are made
of 1000 denier Cordura, a heard wearing waterproof material with a high tear resistance,
manufactured from woven nylon coated with polyurethane. Heavy duty 2-ply PVC, 3.5mm thick
is used for the storage curtains.
The side bags have an integral lower return bag to complete the seal at
the bottom of the vehicle body.
The body is manufactured from 50mm thick insulated panel clad both sides
with plastic coated galvanized steel sheet. The standard colour to both sides of the
panels is white. Other colours are available as an option.
The fan is powered by a 0.18 kW 415V 3 Phase electric motor. Inflation
time is between 10 and 15 seconds. Standard control panel is an on-off switch. The control
is switched on to inflate the air bags after the vehicle has docked. The fan runs
continually while the loading/unloading operation takes place.
After the fan is deactivated, a counterbalance system deflates the head
bag and an internal retraction system deflates the side bags, which return behind storage
curtains.

Model DR 500
This model is suitable where there is a wide variation in
vehicle height and the vehicles in use may have 'barn' type doors where a gap is created
between the sides of the vehicle and the open doors. In these cases, conventional
inflatables and static shelters do not seal the vehicle to the building.
The side elements of this shelter inflate straight out from the rear of
the building onto the rear of the vehicle while the head seal inflates down onto the
vehicle roof.

Diagram shows air seals inflated, sealing the space between the vehicle and building |
The head and side bags are manufactured from 1000 denier Cordura.
The head seal is mounted on a backboard complete with a counterbalanced
roller retraction system to return the deflated bag to the stored position behind the PVC
storage curtain. The whole assembly is mounted under a 50mm thick insulated panel coated
both sides with a white 'Plastisol' coated galvanized steel sheet. The roof is supported
on galvanized steel brackets at either end, which are bolted back to the building.
The side seals are mounted on lightweight galvanized steel profiles. The
side bags have an internal retraction system storing them flat against the building when
deflated.
The side bags inflate straight out to seal the back of the vehicle giving
minimal loading stresses to the building structure. The counterbalance weight for the head
seal runs vertically behind one of the side seals. A high visibility vehicle guide stripe
is stitched to the lower face of the side seals.
The fan should be switched
off prior to the vehicle leaving.

Model DR 700
This model is recommended where there is a wide variation in
vehicle height and where vehicles may have tail lift and/or rear roller or slide over
doors. It is not recommended where vehicles have 'barn' type doors. It is ideal where
space is an issue and where aesthetics are not. Up to two metres in height variation can
be accommodated using the DR 700 dock shelter.

Diagram shows cross-section of compressed side seals in contact with vehicle |
The head and side bags are manufactured from 1000 denier Cordura.
This is dock level mounted unit, which has no projections beyond the dock
bumper when deflated. The side seals have a negligible load factor on the building
surface. The inflatable head seal is mounted on an insulated panel, which forms the roof
with a standard projection of 750mm. The head bag is retracted by means of a counterweight
and is hidden behind a 3.5mm thick PVC storage curtain when retracted.
The inflatable side seals are mounted on to galvanized steel 'top hat'
sections and will wrap around the vehicle sides when inflated and will store flat against
the building when deflated. The counterbalance weight will run vertically behind one of
the side seals.
Supported on galvanized
steel brackets at each end, which are bolted back to the building.
An electric fan motor is mounted on the underside of the roof and is
connected to the inflatable head bag. The fan is powered by a 0.18 kW 415V 3 Phase
electric motor. Inflation time is between 10 and 15 seconds. Standard control panel is an
on-off switch. The control is switched on to inflate the air bags after the vehicle has
docked. The fan runs continually while the loading/unloading operation takes place. The
fan should be switched off prior to the vehicle leaving.

DR
300 Retractable Dock Shelter
Simple, universal and effective, the DR 300 offers a general purpose seal
to cater for most applications.
It is designed to recoil on impact, thereby extending the shelter life.
The DR 300 is available in dock mounted or ground mounted with or without
an adjustable head.
Specification
Manufactured with a 60mm x30mm galvanized steel box section main frame
with 30mm x 30mm galvanized steel box section cantilever arms bolted to the front and back
side beams and pivoted at each end to allow the shelter to retract against the building in
the event of vehicle impact.
The side and roof frames are clad in a 600g/mē flexible PVC/polyester.
Two vertical sides and one transverse head curtain are manufactured from 3.5mm thick
PVC/polyester and seal against the top and sides of the vehicle body. This material has
two inner cores of linear woven polyester coated with a hardwearing compound of PVC, which
gives an inherent spring to the fabric.
Framework
The roof frame is constructed from 60mm x 30mm electro-galvanized steel
box section forming front and rear transverse cross beams. The front beam is 100mm lower
that the rear to allow water run-off. 30mm x 30mm galvanized steel box sections are
pivoted at each end connect the front and rear vertical beams of the side frames to each
other. Vehicle impact causes the front beam to retract back to the building, with the
cantilever arms causing the front beam to rise as well as retract. When the misaligned
vehicle clears the shelter it will automatically return to the original position under its
own weight.
Sides and roof are covered in a waterproof 610g/mē flexible PVC fabric.
Each side curtain has vehicle guide markers for safe operation.

Dock Buffer Systems
We offer three different types of buffer:
Standard dock buffers
Constructed of reinforced rubber composite these are available in both
rectangular and L shaped in a range of sizes.
Sliding buffer systems
To overcome the problems of buffers being damaged due to vehicles being
raised and lowered on air suspension we have a sliding buffer system.
This travels up and down with the vehicle.
Vehicle detection buffer (VDB) systems
This buffer has an integral system that sends a signal to other dock
equipment such as traffic lights, doors, inflatable shelters, etc.
The VDB creates a positive link between loading bay operation and vehicle
movements, thus ensuring a safer working environment.

Dock Leveller
Electro-Hydraulic Hinged lip Pit-mounted type.
Suitable for
vehicles with UK tail lifts.
Leveller deck is designed to
flex laterally by 100mm in each direction to compensate for vehicle tilt, while remaining
extremely rigid longitudinally.
Supplied with a 2-button
control panel consisting of single operating button and an emergency stop button.
Safety is assured by a pressure
lock valve within the single ram, which prevents the platform descending under load if the
vehicle inadvertently pulls away or in event of hose failure.
A set of kerb angles will be delivered separately for casting
in by the contractor prior to installation of the leveller.
